Tags are a powerful way to organize your nuggets. Learn how to create an effective tagging system that helps you find and connect your insights.
What Are Tags?
Tags are labels you attach to nuggets to categorize them. Unlike folders, which force you to choose one location, tags allow a nugget to belong to multiple categories.
For example, a nugget about "React performance tips" could have tags like:
reactperformancefrontendproject-website
Creating Tags
From the Tags Page
- Navigate to Tags in the sidebar
- Click "Create Tag"
- Enter a name for your tag
- Choose a color (optional)
- Click "Save"
While Saving a Nugget
When saving a new nugget, tags are created and assigned automatically
Tag Best Practices
Use a Consistent Naming Convention
Choose a style and stick with it:
- Lowercase:
react,marketing - Kebab-case:
project-alpha,user-research - Avoid: mixing styles like
React,marketing,Project_Alpha
Create Categories
Build a tagging taxonomy that makes sense for your work:
By Project
project-alphaproject-betaclient-acme
By Topic
codingdesignmarketingresearch
By Type
how-todecisionideareference
By Status
action-requiredreview-laterarchived
Don't Over-Tag
Aim for 2-5 tags per nugget. Too many tags can:
- Make it harder to find things
- Dilute the meaning of each tag
- Create maintenance headaches
Review Tags Regularly
Periodically review your tags:
- Merge similar tags (e.g.,
frontendandfront-end) - Delete unused tags
- Rename tags for clarity
Managing Tags
Editing Tags
- Go to Tags in the sidebar
- Click on a tag to edit it
- Change the name or color
- All associated nuggets are updated automatically
Deleting Tags
- Go to Tags in the sidebar
- Click the delete icon on a tag
- Confirm the deletion
- The tag is removed from all nuggets
Note: Deleting a tag doesn't delete the nuggets—it only removes the tag association.
Viewing Nuggets by Tag
To see all nuggets with a specific tag:
- Go to Nuggets in the sidebar
- Use the tag filter or search
- Click on a tag to filter
Tag Colors
Colors help you visually distinguish tags at a glance. Consider using colors to indicate:
- Category type (blue for projects, green for topics)
- Priority (red for urgent, yellow for important)
- Status (gray for archived, purple for active)
Filtering and Searching
Using Tags in Search
On the Nuggets page, you can:
- Click tags to filter
- Combine multiple tags (AND logic)
- Search within tagged nuggets
In AI Chat
Reference tags when asking questions:
"What nuggets tagged with 'project-alpha' are about deployment?"
"Summarize my 'decision' tagged nuggets from this month."
